Introducing the CyberDrone Challenge

The CyberDrone Challenge brings together students, government, industry, and the security community to learn about UAV (Drone) cybersecurity vulnerabilities and ways to help secure them.

The 1st Annual CyberDrone Challenge ran at Camp Grayling, MI from September 23rd to September 27th, 2024.

Security companies, researchers, and government organizations (state and federal) joined to help teach the students, give them access to equipment and tools, and help them form connections in the drone industry.

Please look at the Gallery to see what the CyberDrone Challenge “looked & felt like” and browse the site for schedule, etc.

Classes included: hardware reverse engineering, software reverse engineering, cellular attacks (you set up an IMSI catcher and MITM cellular communications), drone RF attacks, drone fundamentals, and some theory underpinning electronic warfare.

The CyberDrone Challenge is one of a “family of events” each focused on exciting and educating the next generation workforce about career options and the cybersecurity challenges of the field. Others in this family include the CyberAuto Challenge (www.CyberAuto-Challenge.org), CyberTruck Challenge (www.CyberTruckChallenge.org), CyberTractor Challenge (www.CyberTractorChallenge.org), and the CyberMedical Challenge (CyberMedicalChallenge.org)
